Thanks to you all! This actually was a picture my uncle (father's brother) gave to me. It is most likely my uncle's father's father (so my great grandfather!) My grandfather came over from Poland in the early 1900's. I am in the process of researching family history, so this is great!

Just to add something else - the bayonet seems to be French, but this would possibly identify him as having been equipped with a French rifle following service in WW1 under the command of the French Army..

The is wearing Polish Army uniform from the period just after the 1st World War 1919 -20'ish. The details on the collar; the 'wavy line' is distinctly Polish. Check this site out. http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtop...4743&start=450

The dirk/dagger on the soldiers belt looks like a WW1-era sappers/engineers or medical corps weapon/tool. Austro-Hungarian and German armies issued such weapons. Also firefighters in both Countries used a similar item.

They look to be brothers. I'd guess the time frame is 1915+ era.
